Ice Maker Repair — Book a Visit Today
We repair refrigerator ice makers and under-counter ice machines, and you can reach us to set a visit. Ice makers quit for a handful of reasons, and around here scale is usually part of the story. Hard water crusts the fill valve, coats the mold, and glues cubes into one lump. Other times it's a warm freezer, a kinked water line, a frozen fill tube, a tired water inlet valve, or a control board that stopped calling for a harvest. When we come out, we pull the bin, check water pressure at the valve, read freezer temperature, and watch the unit run a full cycle so we're fixing the real fault instead of guessing. Under-counter machines get the drain and pump looked at too. Tell us the sounds and the cube shape when you call, because that detail saves time on the visit.

The ice maker symptoms we hear most
- No ice at all, but the freezer is cold Water supply, inlet valve, or a shut-off arm stuck in the up position
- Cubes are tiny and hollow Low water fill volume from a clogged valve screen or a scaled fill tube
- One big frozen chunk in the bin Slow melt-and-refreeze from a bad door seal or a thawed fill tube
- Water on the kitchen floor under the fridge Leaking supply line, cracked fill cup, or an overfilling inlet valve
- Ice tastes like the freezer smells Old filter, stale cubes sitting too long, or open food giving up odors
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Make sure the ice maker's on switch or wire arm didn't get bumped off while somebody was loading groceries.
- 2Look behind the fridge for a pinched or kinked copper or plastic water line.
- 3Set a thermometer in the freezer. Ice production stalls once it drifts above about 10 degrees.
- 4Think back to the last water filter change, since a clogged one starves the fill valve.

Homeowners on how the visit went
“Old house, old wiring, cranky range. The tech worked around all of it without complaining once.”
Herb W.Stockton, CA“They said morning, they meant morning. The quote said one number, the card ran that number.”
Faye D.Reno, NV“Ice maker leak had warped the floor before we noticed. They fixed the valve and pointed us to a floor guy. Above and beyond.”
Kurt V.Gilbert, AZIce Maker Repair — quick answers
Why does my ice maker work in winter and quit in summer?
Heat load. When the kitchen runs hot and the door opens all day, the freezer has a hard time holding harvest temperature. If cooling is already marginal from a dirty condenser or a weak seal, ice output is the first thing to fall off.
Can hard water really kill an ice maker?
It shortens the life of one. Minerals build up on the fill valve screen, the mold, and around the thermostat, and you get slow fills, cloudy cubes, and sticking. Descaling with a fresh filter helps. Sometimes the valve itself has to be replaced.
Is it worth fixing or should I use bagged ice?
We'll tell you straight during the visit. If the fault is a valve, line, thermostat, or module, repair usually makes sense. If the sealed cooling system is going on an older fridge, we lay out the tradeoffs and you decide.
Do you work on under-counter and standalone ice machines?
Yes. Those have their own pumps, drains, and cleaning cycles. We check water in, water out, and the harvest sensors. Neglected drains and scaled evaporator plates cause most of the complaints we see on these units.
My cubes smell odd. Is that a repair?
Often not. Dump the bin, change the filter, wash the bin out with mild soap, and cover strong foods. If the smell shows up again in fresh cubes, then we look at the water line and how the fridge moves air.
How long does a typical ice maker repair take?
Many of these wrap up in one trip when it's a valve, line, or module. An ice maker still needs time to make ice after the fix, so we may ask you to check the bin in several hours and call us if it's still empty.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us what it's doing
Ring us or fill in the form, and describe the noise, the smell, the error code and the brand. Small details help us load the right parts before we ever knock on your door.
- Step 2
We come look
Our tech tests the machine instead of guessing. You hear what failed and why, in plain words. Then you decide whether repairing it makes sense or replacing it makes more sense.
- Step 3
Repair and retest
Approved work gets done, often on the same visit. We run a full cycle before packing up, wipe down the area, then show you what changed so nothing surprises you next week.
